data vs knowledge
Databases can be spatially transformed to help visualize how designers interact with site, and to analyze patterns that have previously been unable to quantify or visualize. We will acquire or create data that will be used to make spatial correlations. Geography Information Systems (GIS) will be used as the predominant tool to interpret the spatial nature of data traces, supplemented with other software packages in dynamic 4D modeling, geo-spatial analysis and database management.

An interesting question, then, is whether a Lagrangian or Eulerian world view is adopted when analyzing information. That is, do we follow data along its trajectories of flow through, around and beyond the site (information-centric), or do we focus on the site and view the variety of flows that move through our site (site-centric)? Each logic triggers a distinct hierarchy of influence between site and information, and deserves equal exploration.

>>OASIS is a big one that community planners use. The major issue with this is that you can't export any of the data on the site - I have all of the data in OASIS on the X:\drive. Even with it's limitations it is great for none technical people to find out information about their communities.
>>BYTES OF THE BIG APPLE distributes detailed information about parcels, owner, landuse, property values are among some of the variables.
>>DOITT has basic files for the city such as building footprints etc.
>>Neighborhood statistics is also a site that community boards use a lot to get data about their neighborhoods.
>>Neighborhood information in a map-based interface.

_new york state
>>New York State GIS info

_U.S. national
>>Infoshare collected a lot of data from different city and government agencies and allows you to download it through their site. Infoshare is very popular among, planner adn other that want to use data to tell a story about the place they are looking at.
